Dr. Mizukawa was born in San Antonio, TX, raised in Ft. Washington, MD, but finished high school in St. George, UT. He is proud to call southern Utah home. His educational background includes graduation from Pine View High School in 1996. He served a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Fukuoka, Japan. He then attended Brigham Young University and received a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, after which he received a Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He then completed a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Vanderbilt University in 2011. After coming back to St. George for one year in private practice, his path lead back to Nashville, TN to teach in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Vanderbilt.
Ultimately, he and his wife, Julie, decided Utah is where their roots are, so they returned to St. George to join Dixie Oral Maxillofacial and Implant Surgery, where Dr. Mizukawa is currently a partner. From his youth, Dr. Mizukawa has always had a love of the outdoors. He has a particular love for rock climbing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, hiking and backpacking, mountain biking, and camping. He has strongly felt the positive influence of the outdoors on physical and mental health in his own life, as well as those of youth. It was this observation, along with a deep concern for the well-being of rising generations that motivated him to start Get Outside and do something more about this mounting problem that faces modern society.
Dr. and Mrs. Mizukawa have 6 children now. They enjoy spending as much time as possible in the outdoors, whether in the mountains, on the lake, or in the beautiful canyons of southern Utah. Some of their fondest family memories involve the outdoors, including rock climbing, camping, biking, boating, and hiking throughout the country.
