Rep. Steve Handy, R-Layton, represents Utah’s 16th Legislative District that covers parts of Layton, Clearfield and Hill Air Force Base.
He was appointed by Governor Gary R. Herbert in May 2010 and has been re-elected five times.
His committee assignments include: Chairman, Political Subdivisions; Member, Public Utilities Energy and Technology; Member, Natural Resources Agriculture and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee.
He is a Co-chair of the Utah Legislature’s Clean Air Caucus.
Professionally, Steve owns a public relations and marketing communications consulting business. Previously, he was the marketing director for the Deseret News and the Standard-Examiner.
A graduate of the University of Utah, Steve has a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s in Human Resources Management.
He served eight years on the Layton City Council and currently serves on the United Way of Salt Lake’s Davis County Leadership Council and on the Intermountain Healthcare’s McKay-Dee Board. He is a member of the marketing committee for the Crossroads of the West Council, Boy Scouts of America.
Steve and his wife, Holly, have six children and 17 grandchildren. They have lived in Layton for 42 years.
