Dirk van Duym is a Research Economist at the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). He works in the Research & Methodology Branch of the Regional Directorate, focusing on improving state and local economic measurement. His responsibilities have involved the development of the prototype state-level Outdoor Recreation Satellite Account, and working to research and implement new measures of housing services across different BEA divisions. Dr. van Duym has an MA and a PhD (2018) in economics from the University of Minnesota, where he wrote his dissertation on the economics of water policy in the western U.S. He graduated from Middlebury College with a BA in mathematics and economics.
