Ron West currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Backcountry Discovery Routes® (BDR®) a non-profit organization that establishes off-highway routes for dual-sport and adventure motorcycle travel. We have introduced a new route with free GPS tracks for the community every year since 2010. In addition, we produce a full length documentary film highlighting the new route and its history, culture, and scenic beauty. Each route generates new tourism that delivers sustainable economic relief to less-advantaged rural communities through which adventure riders travel. The BDR has an educational mission to encourage responsible backcountry travel and recently initiated an Access and Advocacy grant program to further the BDR’s goals making funds available to other non-profit organizations.
From a very young age, Ron accompanied his parents on excursions to explore the mountains and deserts of California – exploration that continues to this day. Being instilled with a rich appreciation for the history of the state and for its diverse and vast backcountry opportunities, and seeing these opportunities threatened, led Ron to volunteer for the BDR to further its goals. Ron was a member of the CABDR-South Filming Expedition.
Ron also volunteers for the Southern California Mountains Foundation and the Cleveland National Forest advocating for responsible OHV travel on public lands.
