James Toledo is a member of the Navajo Nation, he is Ashiihi (Salt Clan) born for Ta’neeszahnii (Tangle Clan). He was born and raised in Salt Lake City, UT but also calls New Mexico his second home. He would spend his summer breaks helping his grandparents on the reservation and try not to lose sheep in the nearby canyons. James likes to exercise his creativity and explore the world through photography. Growing up, James was involved with his local Title IX (Title VI) Program, where he learned and performed the Hoop and Apache Crown dances at school assemblies. He graduated from West High School and began his college experience at Salt Lake Community College, where he continued his studies at the University of Utah. James has always been passionate about government and has focused on elevating the Native voice in the political process. It was only a matter of time before he moved toward a career in government. He is currently the program manager for the Utah Division of Indian Affairs, a state agency that serves as the liaison between state and tribal governments.
