Paul Johnson is an outdoor enthusiast with years of experience helping companies achieve their goals. He focuses on helping his clients identify, protect, and monetize their intellectual property. This includes the full spectrum of patent portfolio management and strategy, including patent prosecution and drafting; domestic and global patent portfolio management; counseling on infringement and validity, freedom-to-operate, patentability analysis, and due diligence investigations; development of design-around strategies; and prior art search and analysis. He also assists clients with their trademark strategies and portfolios.
Paul’s technological expertise spans the mechanical, software, electrical and optical fields. He has also prosecuted a large number of patents for all aspects of solar panel technology, including electrical, mechanical attachment, and control systems. In addition, Paul has wide-ranging experience in software technologies, including data deduplication, data backup, and software testing, as well as e-commerce technologies and business methods.
His clients include outdoor equipment manufacturers in such areas as: ski training devices, ski bikes, archery equipment, snorkeling gear, as well as other outdoor consumer devices. Paul understands the diverse needs of companies at all stages of growth and has advised clients such as Tngnt Ski Bikes, Launch Pad Gear, and FIVICS Archery on an array of legal issues that impact outdoor industry businesses.
Outside of work, Paul takes full advantage of all the recreation opportunities the Mountain West has to offer. You can often find him rock climbing, snow skiing, water skiing, or backpacking with his family. Recently he and his family hiked Havasupai Falls. However, Paul’s passion is cycling. He biked Moab’s White Rim Trail last fall and completed two Gran Fondo Rides last summer. He also took part in his third LoToJa Classic in September 2021.
